He really stressed how important it could be to our business and more importantly to our customers. We were introduced to the Chaga mushroom by a holistic provider some time ago. We wanted a scent you would use as a body spray with the added benefit of a spray that said you “Bug Off”.Īll this talk and finally here it is our exciting new Chaga products! We have put a lot of time and research into Chaga over the last year. As we began to blend the potions and lotions we were able to cloak the garlic smell with our process a very pleasant and appealing scent. As we looked deeper into the use of pure essential we began to realize that peppermint, spearmint, cedar and sage were also added benefits to our plight. Lemongrass tend to be more expensive but our goal was to make it smell great also. This was a lemongrass scent which works as effectively as citronella but smells much better. We had notices over the last couple of years that the use of our SCORE body cream would keep the little vermin away while we would be hanging around outdoors. As we continued to research we would discover that many of the essential oils we used in our other products were great repellents. The challenge in this product would be that no one was going to want to smell like a clove of garlic but that would be resolved much easier than we thought. Another possibility is that the strong smell of garlic overwhelms their sense of smell and prevents them from finding their prey (you & me). They have therefore evolved to avoid garlic. It would seem that the powerful compounds such as allicin which garlic releases are inimical to mosquito’s black flies and ticks. While we were researching the essential oils that repelled these horrid little parasites we discovered garlic as a strong and effective repellent. Not sure how the soaps will fare in the long run, time will tell. The Hoe Down Natural Bug Spray was an extension of our Puppy Love Dog Soap. For me, it's worth it if it keeps the complexity of the fragrance that it has in the bottle. I'm really happy with the fragrance of the wood blend so I will try it again with a control soap.Īll in all, I am happy enough with the result that I will use the rest of my small bottle for more testing and will likely order a larger bottle. Unfortunately, I have never used this blend I made before and I did not make a control soap so I can't tell if it really worked, sorry. It said on Lotioncrafter that Aromafix does not work well with wood scents, but the fragrance really stuck well and stayed complex. I also did a small bar with a wood blend I made. The difference is not extreme, but worth it in my opinion. The bar with no Aromafix has lost a lot of complexity and is a bit lighter in smell. The one with Aromafix definitely smells more complex, like the notes were not destroyed by the lye monster. I soaped them on 10/24/14 and I took them out today to take a smell. Well, actually one bar had no AromaFix and the other had it at 5%. I used it in two test bars using it at 5%. I wanted to come back and give the results I had with Aromafix.
